Air Conditioner: Good Installations Aren’t Cheap and Cheap Installations Aren’t good!

I recently spoke with a client who found an air conditioner “installer” at the store where she purchased her AC. He took two hours and it was a horrible installation. The AC fell and she wound up buying a new unit. Luckily no one was hurt. 

AC installation is expensive because the work is EXTREMELY dangerous. A secure and professional install will ensure that your unit is secure. So if you higher someone to put your A/C in for $40, this is not a professional and a bad installation can effect your unit’s performance. 

Air Conditioner Installation – To Caulk or NOT to Caulk

We’ve been in the business for several years. An older practice which was utilized by the previous generation of installers was the use of CAULK when insulating the air conditioner. 

This is a really BAD idea. Caulk is a permanent solution to seasonal device. In addition, caulk destroys your air conditioner side panels. In addition this really damages your windows. When the caulk is removed, you’ll find the paint removed or a gunky hard mess which can’t be removed. 

Avoid caulk and talk to use about more practical solutions. 

Your Air Conditioner Installation — The Good, The Bad and The Ugly

The Good

This is dangerous. You may not know this, but your air conditioner is not designed to be level. It slightly leans, and the water drains from the rear.

A bad installation will also have bad or no insulation. This will cause the unit to run harder, and you’ll see an increase in your electricity bill.

The Ugly

This is just awful. The unit is getting ready to fall out of the window. Or even worse, you don’t have the unit in the window properly!
